Settling in Medina

The Muslims began to settle down in Medina. The name Medina means town, short for “Town of Allah’s messenger prayer and peace upon him”; it used to be called Yathrib before.

The year of the migration was considered the first year of the Islamic Calendar which goes by the Lunar months. This started at the time of the rule of the second Khalifa “Omar Ibn El-Khatab”. Some thought of taking the year of Allah’s messenger’s birth the starting point, and others thought of taking the year he first received the message to be the starting point. They all agreed to take the year of the migration to Medina to be the starting year, because of its great importance, and to take the month of Moharam as the first month of the year.

Abd Allah Ibn Salam the Jewish scholar embraces Islam:

Abd Allah Ibn Salam was one of the scholars of the Jews in Medina. He heard about Allah’s messenger prayer and peace upon him recognized him from his description in the Torah.

When Allah’s messenger prayer and peace upon him reached Qibaa, man went to tell him. Abd Allah was working on a palm tree of his, and under the tree was his maternal aunt. When heard from the man, he said “Allah Akbar’, and his aunt said to him: “Shame on you, you would not have said any more had you heard of Moses the son of Imran coming?” He said to her: “My aunt, by Allah, he is a brother to Moses the son of Imran, following the same religion, and sent with what Moses was sent with”. She said: “O my nephew is he the prophet we were told that he will be sent? He said: Yes. Abd Allah Ibn Salam went to see Allah’s messenger prayer and peace upon him and declared his Islam, then returned home to his family who embraced Islam too.

I did not tell the Jews about my embracing Islam, and he went to Allah’s messenger prayer and peace upon him and said: “Allah’s messenger, the Jews are lying people, would you hide me from them in one of your rooms, then ask them about me before I tell them about my Islam, for if they know about it beforehand, they will insult me and call me liar?” Allah’s messenger prayer and peace upon him entered me into one of his rooms and when they went to him, they went to him and asked him, then he asked them about me, they said said: “A noble and son of a noble, and our pious and scholar”. When they finished I appeared and said: “O Jewish people, fear Allah and accept what he came to you with, for by Allah you know that he is Allah’s messenger, you will find it written about him in Torah by his name and description, I testify that He is Allah’s messenger prayer and peace upon him, I believe in him, accept him and know him”. They said: “You lie” then they started saying bad things about me, I said to Allah’s messenger prayer and peace upon him: “Did I not tell you that they betray, lie and wicked”. I showed my Islam and my family’s and my aunt Khaledah the daughter of Hareth embraced Islam and was good in her Islam”.

Mukhayreq embraces Islam:

Mukhayreq was a rich Jewish man, and he had many palm trees. He was also a scholar who knew about Allah’s messenger prayer and peace upon him from the Torah.

On the day of the battle of Ohud, he said to his people: “You know that it is your duty to support Mohamed”. No one of them went out, and Mukhaireq made a will that if he was to be killed that day, all his money and property go to Mohamed. He went out and fought with the Muslims, and was martyred, and Allah’s messenger prayer and peace upon him inherited his money and property.

Safia Bent Hoyai embraces Islam:

She narrated that she was the one of the children most loved by her father and to her uncle Abi Yasser. When Allah’s messenger prayer and peace upon him arrived to Qibaa, by Medina, her father and uncle went to see him, and did not come back until sunset. When they returned they did not give her any notice and they appear sad and unhappy. She hears her uncle say to her father: “Is he the one?” Her father said: “Yes, by Allah he is”, her uncle said: “Do you know him for sure?” He said: “Yes”, he said: “What do you feel about him?” Her father answered: “Animosity for as long as I live”.

Safia later married Allah’s messenger prayer and peace upon him.

The Hypocrites:

Most of the idle worshipping Arabs in Medina embraced Islam and only few of the Jews. Some Idle worshipping Arabs pretended to be Muslims to keep their good relations with their kin folks, which meant the emergence of a group of hypocrites. They used to go to Allah’s messenger’s mosque in Medina and they would sit together and mock the Muslims by words or gesture. One day Allah’s messenger prayer and peace upon him ordered them out of the Mosque, and they were thrown out.

Some of the hypocrites were thrown out of the mosque and not all of them. Many of them also turned back from their way to meet the disbelievers on the day of the battle of Ohud.

The hypocrites are present in every time and place, therefore Allah the Highest spoke about them a great deal in the Quran in more than one place; In Sorah Al-Baqarah saying: AND OF PEOPLE THOSE WHO SAY: “WE BELIEVE IN ALLAH AND THE LAST DAY”, WHILE THEY ARE NOT BELIEVERS * THEY TRY TO DECEIVE ALLAH AND THE BELIEVERS, BUT THEY ONLY DECEIVE THEMSELVES, BUT THEY DO NOT KNOW * THERE IS A DISEASE IN THEIR HEARTS AND ALLAH INCREASED THEIR DISEASE, AND A PAINFUL PENALTY IS THEIRS BECAUSE OF THEIR LYING * AND WHEN IT IS SAID TO THEM: MAKE NO MISCHEIR ON EARTH. THEY SAY: BUT WE ARE PUTTING THINGS RIGHT * INDEED THEY ARE THE MISCHEIF MAKERS BUT THEY DO NOT REALIZE IT * AND WHEN IT IS SAID TO THEM: BELIEVE AS PEOPLE BELIEVE. THEY SAY: ARE WE TO BELIEVE AS THE FOOLS BELIEVE. INDEED, THEY ARE THE FOOLS BUT THEY KNOW IT NOT * AND WHEN THEY MEET WITH THE BELIEVERS THEY SAY: WE BELIEVE. BUT WHEN THEY ARE WITH THEIR DEVILS THEY SAY: WE ARE WITH YOU WE ARE ONLY JESTING * ALLAH MOCKS THEM, AND GIVES THEM LEEWAY IN THEIR WICKEDNESS TO KEEP WANDERING BLINDLY IN THEIR INSOLENCE * THEY ARE THOSE WHO TRADED THE RIGHT GUIDANCE FOR THE MISGUIDANCE; NEITHER WAS IT A PROFITABLE TRADE NOR WERE THEY RIGHTLY GUIDED. (S: 2 A: 8-16)

Allah the Highest also sent down a whole Sorah called Monafeqeen (hypocrites) starts saying: “WHEN THE HYPOCRITES COME TO YOU, THEY SAY: WE BEAR WITNESS THAT YOU ARE ALLAH’S MESSENGER; ALLAH KNOWS THAT YOU ARE HIS MESSENGER, AND ALLAH BEARS WITNESS THAT THE HYPOCRITES ARE LYING * …..

Allah’s messenger prayer and peace upon him said: “Four characters, if they are present in a person, he will be a pure hypocrites, and if he has one of them, he would a character of hypocrisy until he gives it up; he lies when he speaks, he does not fulfill his promise, he betrays his covenants, and transgresses all the limits when in animosity”. (N: Eman, 20)

Allah’s messenger prayer and peace upon him never named the hypocrites although he knew them by name. Allah the Highest and His messenger prayer and peace upon him described them to us to be able to identify and recognized them in all times and places.

Life of Prophet Mohamed 17 – Arriving to Medina

Allah’s messenger prayer and peace upon him stayed in Qibaa for few days before going to Medina (Qibaa is very close to Medina). In Qibaa, Ali Ibn Abi Taleb caught up with Allah’s messenger prayer and peace upon him as he stayed behind in Makah for three day to give back what Allah messenger is kept in his house for people for safe keeping before started on his journey to Medina.

Of the interesting happenings in Qibaa I that Ali Ibn Abi Taleb saw a man knocking on the door of a woman living by herself every night and giving her something. Ali asked her about it, she aid: “This is Sahl Ibn Hanef who knows that I have no body; he breaks up the wooden idles of his people and bring me the wood for fire”. (This is a good lesson for us to teach us not to think ill of a Muslim before making sure of the facts, and we might ask them directly if they do something suspicious)

When the people of Medina heard the Jewish man calling from the roof of the house that Allah’s messenger prayer and peace upon him arrive, they went out to receive him. Most of them did not see Allah’s messenger before, and they did not know him from Abu Bakr, but when they saw Abu Bakr shadowing Allah’s messenger prayer and peace upon him from the sun, they knew who is who. Men went out and women went up to the roofs of the houses to see Allah’s messenger prayer and peace upon him. They called out “Allah the Greatest, Mohamed arrived; Allah the Greatest, Allah’s messenger arrived”.

Riding his camel through the streets of Medina, people from various families wanted to take the rains of the camel to take Allah’s messenger prayer and peace upon him to their home, but he said to them: “Let it free, it is being guided”, and they let it free, and the camel went on around the roads of Medina without being directed by any one, including Allah’s messenger prayer and peace upon him.

When Allah’s messenger prayer and peace upon him went past the house of Abd Allah Ibn Obi Ibn Saloul, Abd Allah said: “Go on, stay with those who invited you”. Allah’s messenger prayer and peace upon him mentioned this later to Saad Ibn Obadah who said: “When Allah blessed us with you Allah’s messenger, we were making a crown for him to make him our king”.

The camel of Allah’s messenger prayer and peace upon him stopped and went down in a peace of land belonging to two orphan children, in front of the house of Abu Ayob Al-Ansari, who took Allah’s messenger’s belongings to his house. Allah’s messenger prayer and peace upon him bought the land of the two orphans, and on it he built the mosque and his house. Allah’s messenger prayer and peace upon him worked on the building with both the Migrants and the Ansar (supporters) the building took about seven months.

Allah’s messenger stayed during this time in Abu Ayob Al-Ansari’s house. He lived in the ground floor and Abu Ayob and his family in the upper floor. Abu Ayob did not feel it was write to be above Allah’s messenger prayer and peace upon him, and he asked him to exchange places, but Allah’s messenger prayer and peace upon him said: “It will be better for me and my visitors to be on the ground floor”. For living in the ground floor gives those in the upper floor more privacy.

(This teaches us to be considerate regarding the privacy of the people we visit or stay with as guests)

Abu Ayob and his wife used to make the food and present it all to Allah’s messenger prayer and peace upon him and then they eat after him. They sought to be blessed in eating after him from the same dish. One day they put plenty of anion and garlic in the food, and they took the food back untouched, when he asked Allah’s messenger prayer and peace upon him about it, he said: “I found in it the smell of that plant, and I am a man who speaks closely to people, as for you, eat it”.

He did not want his breath to smell or onion or garlic when he speaks to people, which I another lesson for us to learn.

The various homes of the Ansar also sent food to Allah’s messenger prayer and peace upon him in Abu Ayob’s house, where he stayed for seven month.

Meanwhile, Allah’s messenger prayer and peace upon him sent Zid Ibn El-Haretha and Aba Rafie with two camels and 500 dirham (silver piece) to bring Fatima and Om Kolthom Allah’s messenger’s daughters. His daughter Ruqaya was with her husband Othman Ibn Afan in Abyssinia, and Zinab stayed with her husband and maternal cousin Abi El-Ase Ibn Rabea in Makah, he was still a disbeliever, but this was before the prohibition of Muslim women marrying disbelievers. They went and brought Fatima and Om Kolthom Allah’s messenger’s daughters, Om Ayman Zid Ibn Al-Hareth’s wife, Abd Allah Ibn Abi Bakr, Asmaa, and Aysha Abu Bakr’s children. Allah’s messenger prayer and peace upon him was not married to Aysha yet.

The First Jomaa:

The first Jomaa Allah’s messenger prayer and peace upon him held in Medina he preached saying after thanking and praising Allah for His worth: “O people, send good deeds before you, one of you might die leaving his sheep without a Sheppard, then his Lord will say to him, having no one to translate for him or a shield: “Did my messenger come to tell you, and I have given you property and bounties? What deeds did you send before you arrive?” Then he will look right and left and not see anything, then looks ahead and there is nothing but the Hell-Fire. He of you who can protect his face from the fire with half a date, let him do it, but he who does not have it, then a kind word, for it is rewarded ten times a much to seven hundred, and peace upon you, Allah’s Mercy and Compassion”.

Then he preached again: “Praise and Thank to Allah, I praise and thank Him, and I seek His help. Whoever Allah guides, is on the right guidance and whoever Allah leads astray, no one can guide. I testify that there is no God other than Allah without partners. The best that can be said I Allah’s book the Blessed the Highest. Succeeds whom Allah beautified in his heart, and admitted to Islam after disbelief, and choose him out of other people, it is the best that can be said and the most eloquent. Love what Allah loves, love Allah with all your hearts, and do not get bored of his words and do not let your hearts harden and reject it, for Allah chooses and select some, he consider the best of the deeds and the chosen of the people. It is the righteous words, and therein is all Allah has permitted and forbidden. Worship Allah and do not worship partners besides him, and guard yourselves from Allah’s displeasure as He is worth, and be sincere when you say good, and love each other through Allah, Allah is angered when the covenant with Him is not fulfilled, and peace be upon you”

The Treaty with the Jews:

Allah’s messenger prayer and peace upon him held a treaty with the three Jewish tribes living in Median, giving them complete peace and security in practicing their religion, and to live securely in Medina. Also the treaty included that Muslims and Jews should help each other against their enemies, and not for the Muslims to help the enemies of the Jews or protect them, nor for the Jews to help the enemies of the Muslims or protect them, and that no one should help or protect Qurish.

The Brotherhood between the Migrants and the Supporters:

Allah’s messenger prayer and peace upon him made a brotherhood between the Migrants from Makah, and the supporters who were the inhabitant of Medina. Men were joined in brotherhood, which supported the migrants who had no family or property in Medina, this gave the each migrant a family, and the brotherhood was such that the brothers inherit each other. This brotherhood supported the migrants and strengthened the relationship between the Muslims of Medina, original inhabitants and new comers.

This state continued until Allah the Highest stopped the inheritance part, in the Quran, saying: “BUT THE BELIEVERS ARE BROTHERS, MAKE PEACE BETWEEN YOUR BROTHERS AND GUARD YOURSELVES FROM ALLAH’ DISPLEASURE AND BE RIGHTEOUS SO THAT YOU MAY BE TREATED MERCIFULLY”. (S: 49 A: 10)

And also sent: “AND THE BLOOD RELATIONS ARE THE CLOSE KIN TO EACH OTHER IN ALLAH’S BOOK, FOR ALLAH KNOWS ALL THINGS”. (S: 8 A: 75)

The Azan (call for Salah)

Allah’s messenger prayer and peace upon him and the Muslims felt secure in Medina and started praying openly, and they worked on building the Mosque for the Jamaa (group) Salah and the Friday prayer. The Muslims used to know the times of the Salah and get to the mosque on time to pray. Some suggested using a horn to call people for Salah like the Jews do and others suggested using a bell like the Christians do.

One of Allah’s messenger’s companions of the Ansar called Abd Allah Ibn Zid saw a vision and he told Allah’s messenger prayer and peace upon him about, he said: “Allah’s messenger, I saw someone in my dreams, a man came to me in my dream wearing two green robes, and carrying a bell in his hand. I said to him: “Allah’s slave, would you sell me this bell? He said: and what are you going to do with it? I said: I will use it to call people for the Salah. He said: Shall I tell you what is better? I said: And what is it? He said: You say: and he narrated the Azan.

When he told Allah’s messenger prayer and peace upon him he said: “This is a true vision Allah willing, go with Belal and tell him about it and he will call the Azan with it, for he has a better voice than yours”

When Belal called, Omar Ibn El-Khatab heard it and he rushed out to see Allah’s messenger prayer and peace upon him and he said: “Allah’s messenger, by He who sent you with the truth, I saw the same”. Allah’s messenger prayer and peace upon him said: “Thank and Praise Allah for that”.

This is the Azan Belal used to use to call people for Salah, and this is the Azan used in every Mosque to this day.

Belal used to go up on the roof of the highest near the mosque of Allah’s messenger prayer and peace upon him to call the Azan. He used to go before dawn and site and wait until Fajr. He will rise, stretch and say: “My Lord I thank and praise you, and ask for your help so that Qurish will follow your Religion, then calls the Azan”. He did not leave doing this even once during the life of Allah’s messenger prayer and peace upon him.

The Salah was held 5 times a day, openly and the Muslims started to worship Allah the Highest openly without fear or oppression. The Medina became the seed of the Muslim State and then it’s Capital. Allah the Highest started to send the Laws of the Shariaa concerning all aspects of Muslims life such as marriage, divorce, inheritance, penalties, prohibitions etc. Sending them before establishing an authority for Islam and Allah’s messenger prayer and peace upon him would have been pointless, for the Muslims did not have power to enforce such laws. By Migration of the Muslims from Makah to Medina and the Islam of a great number of the Arabs of Medina, the Muslims began to have the nucleus of a State, headed by Allah’s mess messenger prayer and peace upon him.

Abu Quis Sormah Ibn Malik:

Abu Quis was one of the Arabs of Medina of Bani Al-Najar. Before Islam, Quis became a monk, dressed like them, and used a house of his as a place for prayer and he did not allow impure man or woman in. He worshiped Allah the Highest via the religion of Ibrahim.

When Allah’s messenger prayer and peace upon him arrived to Medina, Quis was an old man. He embraced Islam, and he was a good Muslim. He used to speak the truth, and glorify Allah the Highest, and he died a Muslim, may Allah be pleased with him.

The Life of the Prophet ppuh 16 – His Migration

March 14, 2009

The Life of the Prophet ppuh 16 – His Migration

Most of the Muslims migrated from Makah to Medina and only few were left behind; Allah’s messenger prayer and peace upon him, Abu Bakr and family, Ali Ibn Abi Taleb, as well as those who were imprisoned, or tempted in his faith of the Muslims.

Abu Bakr asked Allah’s messenger’s permission to migrate and he was answered: “Do not rush, for Allah might give you a companion”. Abu Bakr then hoped that he will accompany Allah’s messenger prayer and peace upon him in his migration to Medina.

When the chiefs of Makah saw that most of Muslims from Qurish migrated to Yathrib (Medina) than many of the people of Medina embraced Islam and they increasing in numbers, they feared that once Allah’s messenger prayer and peace upon him gets to Medina, he will be able to fight Qurish. The chiefs of Qurish called for a meeting in the “meeting place” built by Qusy Ibn Kelab.

When the chiefs of Qurish went to the meeting place, they found Iblis waiting outside in the form middle aged man, who looked respectable. When they asked him who was he, he said: “A sheikh from Najd, heard about the meeting you called for and came to listen, hoping he might be able to give you his opinion or advice. They let him go in with them.

People talked and discussed the matter, one of them said: “Chain him up and lock him up, then wait until we see what happens, like other poets before him or until his death”. The Sheikh from Najd (Iblis) said: “This is not a good opinion, because if you lock him up, he will be able to spread his message through the door, and when his followers increase in numbers, they will be able to free him and then fight you when they increase further”.

Then they talked and discussed the matter, one of them suggested exile out of Makah, then forget about him. The sheikh from Najd said that this is not wise, because once he is out of Makah; he will attract supporters with his good speech and logic, and when they increase in number, and they may fight Qurish and might even defeat them.

Then Abu Jahl said a totally unexpected suggestion, he said: “Let us take from each tribe a strong young man from good descent, and give each of them a sharp sword. Then they go and strike to kill him together like one man, and then we will ride of him. If they do that his many tribes will be responsible for his blood, his family Bano Abd Manaf will not be able to fight them all, and they will have to accept the Dyah (Compensation) for him”. Iblis said: “The best idea is what this man said”

Allah the Highest said about that: “AND AS THOSE WHO DISBELIEVE PLOT AGAINST YOU TO IMPRISON YOU OR TO KILL YOU OR TO TURN YOU OUT, THEY PLOT AND ALLAH PLANS SECRETLY, AND ALLAH IS INDEED THE BEST PLANNER ”. (S: 9 A: 30)

Also said: “OR THEY SAY: “HE IS A POET, WAIT AND SEE WHAT TIME WILL DO TO HIM”. (S: 52 A: 30)

Gabriel then went to Allah’s messenger prayer and peace upon him and told him about the plot, and said: “Do not sleep in the bed where you normally sleep”.

Those young men gathered around the house, waiting for Allah’s messenger prayer and peace upon him to sleep, and then they jump on him and kill him. When Allah’s messenger prayer and peace upon him saw them he said to Ali Ibn Abi Taleb: “Sleep on my bed in my green Hadrami overcoat, and nothing you fear will happen to you”. Allah’s messenger prayer and peace upon him used to cover him with this overcoat when he sleeps.

Allah’s messenger prayer and peace upon him took a fistful of earth and went around throwing it on the heads of the young men, and reciting Surat Yaseen up to: ‘AND WE MADE A BARRIER BEFORE AND A BARRIER BEHIND THEM, COVERING EMBRACING THEM, THEY WERE UNABLE TO SEE”. (S; 39 A: 9)

They stayed there until a man went past them asked: What are you waiting for? They said: We are waiting for Mohamed. He told them: Mohamed went out and there is earth he put over the head of each and every man of you. They looked inside the house to find Ali Ibn Abi Taleb asleep in Allah’s messenger’s place. About this, Allah the Highest sent down the following Ayah: “AND SAY: MY LORD, LET ME ENTER WITH TRUTH AND LEAVE WITH TRUTH, AND LET ME HAVE AUTHORITY AND SUPPORT FROM YOU”. (S: 17 A: 80)

The Migration of Allah’s Messenger prayer and peace upon him

Allah’s messenger prayer and peace upon him was given the prophet-hood when he was 40 years old. He stayed for forty years in Makah trying to spread Islam, then he was commanded to migrate to Yathrib, which he did. He stayed there for 10 years before he died.

Allah’s messenger prayer and peace upon him left his home and went to Abu Bakr’s home at noon when it was very hot. When Abu Bakr saw him coming, he said: “Allah’s messenger prayer and peace upon him would not have come at this hour except that something serious has happened”. He let him in and gave him his place to site down. Allah’s messenger prayer and peace upon him sate down and asked Abu Bakr to others leave. He said: “They are but my daughters, Aysha and Asmaa”.

Allah’s messenger prayer and peace upon him said: “Allah has given me permission to leave and migrate”, Abu Bakr said: “Then companionship Allah’s messenger?” He said: “Well, companionship it is”. Abu Bakr wept out of happiness.

Abu Bakr prepared two camels for this journey, he gave to a man called Abd Allah Ibn Eriqat to feed and look after and he was also him to be their guide in the journey, the man was still an idle worshiper. Allah’s messenger prayer and peace upon him went out through a door in the back of Abu Bakr’s house and said: “Thanks and praise to Allah who created me from nothing, Allah I peg you to help me with the hardship of this life, what the years bring, and the afflictions taking place by day and by night. Allah I peg you to be my companion in my travel, and look after the family I left behind, and bless what you created me for, and make me amiable for your service and correct my character to be right, and make my always love you, and do not leave me alone to people. You are the Lord of the meek and you are my Lord, I seek protection in your Noble Face, which lightened the heavens and the earth, and cleared darkness, and kept the early and last, from suffering Your Anger, or having Your Dismay sent down on me. I plead for Your Protection from losing Your Bounty, and Your unexpected Anger, and turning away of your care, and all kind of displeasure. You have my submission and obedience as much as I can, and no one has means or power without you”.

They both went into a cave in a mountain south of Makah, and before entering, Abu Bakr went in first check if there is a snake or wild beast in the cave, then he invited Allah’s messenger prayer and peace upon him to enter. Abu Bakr told his son Abd Allah to find out what the people in Makah say about them and to bring them the news in the evening.

Abu Bakr also told his freed slave Amer Ibn Fahera take the sheep they have grassing during the day, then by night fall bring them around so that they may drink it’s mild, and also so that their hooves will remove any foot markings near the cave.

A group of men including Abu Jahl went to Abu Bakr’s house asking for him and for Allah’s messenger prayer and peace upon him. Asmaa went out to speak to them, and when she told them that she did not know where they were, Abu Jahl slapped her across the face so hard, that her earring came off.

Ali Ibn Abi Taleb however stayed behind in Makah for few days to give the people of Makah who deposited any valuables with Allah’s messenger prayer and peace upon him their valuables back. Many people in Makah gave their valuables to Allah’s messenger prayer and peace upon him for safe keeping, because of what they knew of his honesty.

Asmaa the daughter of Abu Bakr used to carry food to Allah’s messenger prayer and peace upon him and Abu Bakr every day. When she tried to find something to tie to the food and drink to carry them and she did not find any thing handy, she undid the rolled cloth around her waist she used as a belt, tore longwise into two, she used one for that and the second as a belt. She was called “Zat Al-Netaqin”, meaning the female with two belts, after that.

Abu Bakr took all the money he had in the house, which was 5000 or 6000 Dirham (Silver piece). His elderly blind father “Abu Quhafa” went to check on his grandchildren when he heard of Abu Bakr’s departure. He asked them if Abu Bakr has left them money. Asmaa took his hand and put it on tope of a heap of stones covered with a cloth, and told his that this is all money her father left them, which comforted the man.

Allah’s messenger prayer and peace upon him stayed with Abu Bakr in this cave in Thore Mountain for three days and nights. The Makans went on looking for them, and some of them reached the cave. They became so near, Abu Bakr said to Allah’s messenger prayer and peace upon him: “Allah’s messenger, if any one of them looks to his feet he would see us underneath”. He replied: “Abi Bakr, what do you think about two people and Allah is their third”.

It has also been narrated that while Allah’s messenger prayer and peace upon him and Abu Bakr were in the cave, a spider weaved its web on its entrance, and two doves or pigeons made their nest there to. When some Makans looking for them reached there and saw the web and the nest, they thought that no one entered this cave for at least months, and left. We see that Allah’s care and protection was there and was more effective than an army of guards. Allah the Highest sent these Ayahs to us: “IF YOU DO NOT SUPPORT HIM, ALLAH HAS SUPPORTED HIM AS THOSE WHO DISBELIEVED TURNED HIM OUT, AND AS HE WAS THE SECOND OF TWO INSIDE THE CAVE, AS HE SAID TO HIS COMPANION: “DO NOT GREIF FOR ALLAH IS WITH US”. ALLAH SENT HIS COMFORT UPON HIM AND SUPPORTED HIM WITH SOLDIERS YOU DID NOT SEE, AND HE MADE THE WORD OF THOSE WHO DISBELIEVE THE LOWER ONE AND THE WORD OF ALLAH SUPREME, FOR ALLAH IS EXALTED AND MOST WISE”. (S: 9 A: 40)

Their guide came to them after three days and brought two camels Abu Bakr bought earlier for that day, and left them with the guide to look after and feed. Abu Bakr brought the better of the two to Allah’s messenger prayer and peace upon him, but Allah’s messenger prayer and peace upon him refused to migrate riding an animal he does not own. He refused to take it from Abu Bakr as a gift and insisted on buying it.

The journey to Medina (Yathrib) started, and Amer Ibn Fahera went along with them. During the journey kept on waking in front of Allah’s messenger prayer and peace upon him sometime, and behind him or on his right or on his left other times. He feared that someone might throw a spear or an arrow at Allah’s messenger from any direction, and he wanted to protect him with his body and life. In the mean time, Allah’s messenger prayer and peace upon him walked and looked straight without looking around.

A prize on their heads, dead or alive:

The chiefs of Makah put a prize of 100 camels for whoever brings them Allah’s messenger prayer and peace upon him and Abu Bakr, dead of alive. Soraqa Ibn Malik was one of the nobles of Makah, and he was a horseman and could follow tracks. He heard from some of his people that they saw a small party travelling north by the see shore. He stayed with his friends for about an hour, and then slipped to his home, not wanting to attract attention to his goal. He took his horse and spear and left from the back door of his house and galloped to where he thought Allah’s messenger prayer and peace upon him was.

As Soraqa saw the travelling party, he pushed his horse to catch up with them; however the horse lost its balance and fell. He got up and started galloping again, but the same thing happened again, and it was said that this happened 3 or 4 times, then the horse’s front legs sank into the sand. Soraqa realized that they are protected and that he will never be able to do them any harm. He called them and promised them peace.

The interesting thing is that Soraqa realized that he is not dealing with an ordinary man but a prophet. He asked Allah’s messenger prayer and peace upon him to give him letter reminding him of that day and giving Soraqa peace and security. Allah’s messenger prayer and peace upon him ordered Amer to write such letter (Allah’s messenger prayer and peace upon him was illiterate, he did not read or write) He also asked Soraqa to divert others from their travelling rout.

When Soraqa went back to Makah he did not tell any one about what happened initially, but told whoever wanted to chase Allah’s messenger along the sea rout, that he went that way and did not find them. However, once he heard that Allah’s messenger prayer and peace upon him arrived to Medina safely, he told the people of Makah about what happened with him. It annoyed Abu Jahl to the extend that he wrote poetry telling Soraqa to stop telling his story, to which Soraqa answered with poetry refusing.

In Medina

The Muslims heard about Mohamed prayer and peace upon him leaving Makah. They started going out every morning to look and wait to see him coming, and they would go back home when the sun becomes too hot. On the day Allah’s messenger prayer and peace upon him arrived, a Jewish man saw him from the top of a house, and he called out telling every one.

Allah’s messenger prayer and peace upon him met just before reaching Qibaa on the outskirts of Medina a caravan of traders coming back from north, and Al-Zobir was one of them. They were very pleased see Allah’s messenger prayer and peace upon him safe, and Zobir gave each Allah’s messenger and his other companions white set of cloths each.

Allah’s messenger reached Qibaa and stayed there for few days before moving to Medina.

The journey from Makah to Medina took 15 days. In Medina Islam found a home and support and from there is spread all over the world. This journey was instrumental in changing the course of the world history.

Covenant and Migration

Mosaab Ibn Omir:

Mosaab was a young man who lived very comfortable was he came from wealthy parents. He lived in luxury as his two rich parents never denied him any thing he wanted. When Mosaab embraced Islam, they punished him to pressurize him to leave Islam, but he did not, and Mosaab lived in poverty in Makah. Mosaab fought in Badr then Ohud when he was martyred. When they wanted to burry him, he did not have enough cloths to cover his whole body, so if they covered his face, his feet will be uncovered, and if they cover his feet, his face will be uncovered. Allah’s messenger prayer and peace upon him told the Muslims to cover his face.

This how the first ambassador of Allah’s messenger prayer and peace upon him and Islam, and one of the best in calling people to Islam, may Allah be pleased with him.

Second Aqaba:

Mosaab returned to Makah and a group of the people of Medina went to Makah on Hajj also. They were in the same party with those of the Medina who did not believe and went on Hajj. The Muslims from Medina planed to meet with Allah’s messenger prayer and peace upon him in Aqaba during Hajj.

On the agreed night, the Muslims from Medina slept for the first third of the night, and then they got up and went to meet with Allah’s messenger prayer and peace upon him by the Aqaba. They were 73 men and two women.

Al-Abas, Allah’s messenger paternal uncle went with Allah’s messenger prayer and peace upon him to this meeting. He was not a Muslim then, but he went to make sure that they were sincere. He said to them: “Mohamed is held in high esteem with us, and we are protecting him from our people, he is them in better of with his people, and protected with his family. However, he desires to take your side and join you, so if you see that you can be sincere to him and able to protect him from those who disagree with him, you will carry this responsibility, but if you see that you will give him up and let him down after he joins you, leaving for his is well and protected among his people and in his town”.

The Ansar said: “We heard what you said; speak Allah’s messenger, and take from us for yourself and your Lord what you like (of covenants)”

Allah’s messenger prayer and peace upon him spoke, recited the Quran and spoke to people about Allah and Islam then said: “I take your covenant that you protect me as you protect your children and women”. Al-Bora Ibn Maroor took his hand and said: “By he who sent you with the truth, we will protect you as we protect our offspring, so take our covenant Allah’s messenger for we are people of fighting and war, we inherited this a one generation after another”

A man called Abu Al-Haytem Ibn el-Tehan of the Ansar interrupted saying: “Allah’s messenger, between us and people in Medina (the Jews) links, and we are to sever them, so do you think that if prevail, you will return back to your people and leave us?” Allah’s messenger prayer and peace upon him smiled and said: “Our blood is one and our honour and duties are one, I am one of you and you are one with me, I fight whom you fight and have peace with whoever has peace”.

Then Allah’s messenger prayer and peace upon him said: “Bring forth 12 representatives from amongst you”. 12 representative came out, 9 from Khazrag and 3 from Owes.

When the Ansar gathered around Allah’s messenger prayer and peace upon him to swear the covenants to him, a man from Ansar called Abd Allah Ibn Obada said: “People of Khazrag, do you know what covenant you are going to give this man?” They said: Yes. He said: “You are giving him covenant to fight the red and black people, so if you see that when you afflicted in your money and your nobles are killed, you will give him up, for if you it will be humiliation for you in this life and the Hereafter, but if you see that you will fulfill your covenant with him if you give it, even despite the depletion of money and the death of the nobility, take him, for in this is all the goodness of this life and the hereafter”. They said: “We take him even if we are afflicted in our money and our nobles die, but what we will get for this Allah’s messenger if we fulfill our covenant?” He said: “paradise”. They said: “Open your hand”. He opened his hand and they gave him his covenant.

Al-Bora Ibn Maror praying to the Kabba:

Al-Bora was a man of the Ansar (Inhabitants of Medina) He went with his people the year his people gave their covenant to Allah’s messenger prayer and peace upon him by the Aqaba for the second time. On the way he said to his companions that he wishes to pray to the Kabba, but his companions said to him that they do not like to do something different from what Allah’s messenger prayer and peace upon him does, he was still praying to Al-Aqsa Mosque, which Al-Bora did.

However, Al-Bora was not happy, therefore when he went to Makah, he looked for Allah’s messenger prayer a peace upon him whom he did not see before, and he found him sitting by the Kabba with his uncle, Al-Abas. Al-Bora went to ask Allah’s messenger prayer and peace upon him concerning what he did, Allah’s messenger prayer and peace upon him said to him: “Would you be patient and persevere with the Qibla you have?” Al-Bora went back to praying towards Al-Aqsa mosque until Allah the Highest changed the Qibla to the Kabba about 17 months after Allah’s messenger’s migration to Medina.

Qurish knows about the covenant with Ansar:

In the next morning after the night when the people of Medina gave their covenant to Allah’s messenger prayer and peace upon him, the people of Makah heard about what happened. They went to see them and told them of what they heard and that they do not wish to have animosity and fighting with them.

Many of the people of Medina who went on Hajj that year were still disbelievers, and did not know about what happened that night. Therefore they denied that such meeting and covenant took place, and when their chief Abd Allah Ibn Salool was asked, he also insisted that such meeting did not take place and he did not thing that his people will do such thing without consulting with him first.

Then the people of Yathrib (Medina) went off on their way back to Allah’s messenger prayer and peace upon him.

Catching Saad Ibn Obada:

Saad was one of the nobility of Yathrib (Medina), and also was one of the twelve representatives who gave their covenant to Allah’s messenger prayer and peace upon him. The disbelievers of Makah knew about what happened the night before, but the Ansar were on their way home to medina. Some men from Makah went out chasing after them. They could only catch Saad Ibn Obada. They tied his hands and feet using his camels harness, and took him to Makah beating him up. Someone in Makah asked his if there has been alliance or has helped someone in Makah, and he remembered two men from Makah he used to protect and protect their trade when they went to Yathrib. He shouted their name out and they came to his rescue and sat him free, and he travelled back to Medina.

The Idle of Amro Ibn Al-Gamoh:

Amro Ibn Al-Gamoh was one of the nobility of Medina, who did not embrace Islam at the time, although some of his people and tribe embraced Islam.

Amro had an Idle made of wood in his house, he called Mena. Some of the youth of Medina from Bani Salama went into Amro’s house at night, took the idle and throw it into one of the disused well in Medina where they used to throw dirt. When Amro Rose from his sleep he did find the idle. He went out looking for it until he found it in the well. He took it out, cleaned it and perfumed it and put it back in its place. Those young men did the same the night after and the night after.

Amro got fed up, he said to the idle that he should defend himself, and hang his sword to the idle’s neck.

The Migration of the Muslims to Makah:

After the second covenant at Aqaba, Allah’s messenger prayer and peace upon him commanded the Muslims to start migrating to Makah. He said to them: “Allah the most Exalted and Majestic made brothers and home where you will be safe”. Allah’s messenger companions began migrating to Medina in small groups or individually and in secret, so that the disbeliever may not prevent them from migrating. Abu Bakr Al-Sidiq asked Allah’s messenger prayer and peace upon for permission to migrate, but Allah’s messenger prayer and peace upon him used to say to him: “Be Patient, for Allah might give you a companion”.

The first to have migrated then was Abu Salama Ibn Abd Allah. It was after him and his family returned from Abyssinia about a year before the covenant of Aqaba. Abu Salama went out of Makah leading a camel carrying Om Salama and Salama. When their families knew about their departure from Makah, Abu Salama’s family took Salama, but Om Salama’s family went on trying to pull Salama from them, resulting in Salama’s arm being dislocated. Om Salama’s family stopped her going and Abu Salama’s family took Salama and Abu Salama had to travel to Medina on his own.

Om Salama went out every day looking at the road to Medina and sate watching the road every day crying. One of her cousins saw her like that one day, then he went straight to her family to tell them about what he saw, and pleading for them to let her go to her husband, to which they agreed, also Abu Salama’s family let Salama go with her.

Om Salama went out on the back of the camel carrying her and her son Salama aiming for Medina. When they reached a place called Al-Taneem (where the person on Hajj or Omrah should be in Ihram) they met with a man called Othman Ibn Talha. When Othman knew about her travelling to Medina, accompanied her and Salama all the way to Medina (which is near 500 km each way). Whenever it was time for rest or sleep he would go to sleep on his own under a tree away from them. When they could see Qibaa, he told her that her husband is in that village which is just outside Medina. He let her go to Qibaa and he went back to Makah. Om Salama often talked about the nobility and decency of Othman Ibn Talha.

(After the death of Abu Salama, Allah’s messenger prayer and peace upon him married Om Salama who then became one of the mothers of the believers)

Then Amer Ibn Rabea migrated with his wife Leila. Then Abd Allah Ibn Gahsh migrated with his wife and brother. Then the migration of the Muslims from Makah and Medina went on, and they used to stay in the Muslims of the Ansar in Medina and Qibaa.

The Migration of Omar Ibn El-Khatab:

Omar Ibn El-Khabab agreed with Ayash Ibn Abi Rabea and Hesham Ibn El-Ase to meet to migrate together to the Medina. They gave their word that no one will drop out unless he is imprisoned. Hesham Ibn El-Ase was held and imprisoned and under great pressure, he was made to denounce Islam.

When Omar Ibn El-Khatab and Ayash Ibn Abi Rabea arrived, they stayed in Qibaa in the homes of Bani Amro Ibn Oaf.

Abu Jahl and Al-Hareth Ibn Hesham went from Makah to Qibaa looking for Ayash. When they found him they told him that his mother swore not to comb her hair or site in shade until she sees him. Ayash decided to go with them to his mother despite Omar’s warning. Omar gave Ayash his camel which was stronger and faster so that he can get away on it should he need to. On the Way, Abu Jahl and Al-Hareth jumped on Ayash and tied him up, and entered Makah feeling victorious. Ayash was also pressurized to denounce Islam, and he and Hesham were chained up and imprisoned together in a room.

The Muslims used to consider that whoever denounces his religion, can never be forgiven, until Allah the Highest sent down this Quran: “SAY: O MY SLAVES WHO TRANSGRESSED EXCESSIVELY AGAINST THEIR OWN SOULS, TO NOT BE DESPONDENT OF ALLAH’S MERCY, FOR ALLAH FORGIVES ALL SINS, FOR HE IS THE MOST FORGIVING THE MOST MERCIFUL”. (S: 39 A: 53)

Omar Ibn El-Khatab wrote this Ayah down and sent it to Ayash and Hesham. The message reached them but they did not understand what it meant to them. Ayash asked Allah the Highest to let him know what it means, and Allah the Highest let him understand it.

Allah’s messenger prayer and peace upon him said to his companions: “Who would bring me Ayash Ibn Rabea and Hesham Ibn El-Ase?” Al-Waled Ibn Al-Waled Ibn El-Mogirah said that he will do that. He went disguised to Makah, and looked for the prison of Ayash and Hesham until he knew it from the woman who used to take them food. He found them in a room without a room. He climbed over the wall, broke their chain with his sword, and carried them on his camel to Allah’s messenger prayer and peace upon him in Medina.

Sahib’s Transaction is Profitable:

Sohib was not born and bread in Makah, but he was a Merchant who went to trade in Makah, and he made a fortune and lived them. Sohib embraced Islam, and when he wanted to migrate, the disbelievers in Makah told him that went to Makah poor, and made money there, and if he wants to migrate, he is not to take any of his money with him, and Sohib agreed to leave all his money behind if they will let him go.

Allah’s messenger prayer and peace upon him was informed about this by Gabriel peace upon him, he then said: “Sahib’s transaction is profitable”

When Sohib reached Qibaa, Allah’s messenger prayer and peace upon him said to him: “Aba Yehia, your transaction is profitable”. Sohib said: “Allah’s messenger, no one came before me from Makah, and only Gabriel could have told you”.

Allah the Highest sent down this Ayah about him: AND OF PEOPLE THOSE WHO BUY THEMSELVES SEEKING ALLAH’S PLEASURE, AND ALLAH IS MOST KIND TO HIS SLAVES”. (S: 2 A: 207)

Life of Prophet Mohamed ppuh 14

The Jinn listening to the Quran:

It is reported that while Allah’s messenger prayer and peace upon him was on his way to Makah from Taef, he rose to pray in the night. A group of Jinn passed by him, and they stayed to listen to the Quran. Then they went to their people to tell them about what they saw and heard, and advising their people to believe. Allah the Highest sent Quran about them, and telling Allah’s messenger prayer and peace upon him and the Muslims about them in Sorat Al-Jinn saying: “SAY: IT WAS REVEALED TO ME THAT A GROUP OF THE JINN LISTENED, THEN THEY SAID: “WE HAVE HEARD AN AMAZING QURAN * WHICH GUIDES TO THE TRUTH, AND WE BELIEVED IN IT, AND WE WILL NOT TAKE ANY PARTNER WITH OUR LORD * AND OUR ALMIGHTY LORD DID NOT TAKE A FEMALE PARTNER OR A SON * …………..” (S: 72)

Gabriel came with the angel of the mountains and telling Allah’s messenger prayer and peace upon him that if he wishes he will make the two great mountains outside Makah collapse on Makah. Allah’s messenger prayer and peace upon him said to him not to do that, for he hoped that there will come from them offspring who worship Allah the Highest with not partners. Thanks to Allah the Highest for the patience of his prophet, for there came from them and their offspring those who worship Allah the Highest alone.

Speaking to Hajj groups:

Groups from the different Arab tribes used to go to Makah on the Hajj season every ear. They used to camp together in various places (groups from different countries still do this until now) Allah’s messenger prayer and peace upon him started going to them to tell them about Islam and recite the Quran, asking them to join the Faith and to help him against the prosecution of the disbelievers. He would promise them if they do, a great reward in this life and the Hereafter. In many times, Allah’s messenger’s uncle used to follow him to tell people that Mohamed prayer and peace upon him is made and lying.

When he spoke to the group from Bano Amer, they were prepared to agree but with one condition, that they be the chiefs and in charge after him, but Allah’s messenger prayer and peace upon him said: “This belongs to Allah, to do whatever He wishes with it”. They refused to follow him and possibly suffering without such a reward.

When they went back home, they told an old man who could not travel because of his age, and after tell him, the old man put his hand on his head and said: “O Bano Amer, could the situation it be saved or remedied, can we save any part of it. By him who has my soul in his hand, no one from the descendants of Ismail said any thing like that, and it is true. Where were you wisdom then?”

Sowid Ibn El-Samet:

He was a man from Yathrib (Medina) known for his decency, honour and wisdom, and he was also a poet. He went to Makah on Omrah or Hajj and he met with Allah’s messenger prayer and peace upon him who spoke to him about Islam. Sowid said: “May be you have something similar to what I have?” He said: “What do you have?” Sowid said: “The sheets of Loqman (with his wisdom)”. He read it to Allah’s messenger prayer and peace upon him who said: “These are good words, but what have is better, it is Quran, Allah the Highest sent down to me, it has guidance and light” and he recited the Quran to him. Sowid said: “These are good words”.

Sowid returned to Medina, and he died or was killed there before Allah’s messenger prayer and peace upon migration to Medina. Some Muslims who knew him believe that he died as a Muslim.

Eyas Ibn Moaz:

Eyas was a young man from Awse. He went along with a group of men of the Awse tribe in Yathrib to Makah, seeking to make an alliance in their fights against the other tribe of Khazrag. When Allah’s messenger prayer and peace upon him heard about them being in Makah, he went to them and said: “Would you like something better I come to you with?” They asked: “And what is that?” He said: “I am Allah’s messenger, he sent me to all people asking them to worship Allah and take no partners besides him, and he sent me down the Book”; and he told them about Islam and recited them some of the Quran to them.

Eyas who was a young man then said to his people: “O people, By Allah this is better than what we came for”. One of the others took and fistful of sand and throw Eyas, and they all went back to Yathrib (Medina). Eyas died not very long afterwards, and while dying; his people heard his praising and glorifying Allah to the end. No one had any doubt that he died as a Muslim.

Speaking to Bano Bakr:

Allah’s messenger prayer and peace upon him spoke to the group from the tribe Bano Bakr. They lived next door to the Persian Empire. He spoke to them about Islam and recited them the Quran. He told them that they would take over the land of Persia. But they declined. His uncle Abu Lahab came and told them that Mohamed was insane; Bano Bakr said that they thought so.

Even when some men believed what Mohamed prayer and peace upon him said, the rest will reject him, and stop the others from believing, even using force.

Allah’s messenger prayer and peace upon him was subjected to a great deal of ridicule and physical harm. On one occasion some one hurt Allah’s messenger’s camel with a stick which made it jump and, and he came of its back.

Mysarah Ibn Masrooq:

Mysarah was one of a group of men Allah’s messenger prayer and peace upon him spoke to. Mysarah said to them: “By Allah, if we believe in this man and carried him safely to our land, this would be the best opinion, for I swear that his faith will spread widely”. They decided to go to some of the Jews to consult with them; they went to the Jews of Fadk, who had a good description of Allah’s messenger prayer and peace upon him in their book. The rest of their tribe did not agree to embrace Islam at the time.

During the Last Hajj Allah’s messenger prayer and peace upon him did, he saw Misarah and knew him, who said: “Allah’s messenger, by Allah I was keen to follow since you came to us on your camel, but Allah meant my Islam to be delayed. Most of those who were with me died, so where are they going Allah’s messenger?” Allah’s messenger prayer and peace upon him said: “All those who died on other than Islam are in the Fire”. Misarah said: “Thank Allah who saved me” and he became a good Muslim.

The Islam of the Ansar (Supporters) in Yathrib (Medina):

Allah’s messenger prayer and peace upon him met six men from Yathrib during the Hajj season, by the Aqaba; they were all from Al-Khazrag tribe. He invited them to sit down and speak to them. He told them about Islam and recited the Quran to them. They heard already from the Jews they had in Medina that a prophet is due to appear, they would follow. They said to each other, that this is the prophet they were told about. They accepted Islam and said that there is a great deal of animosity between them and the other tribe in Yathrib, Awse. They hoped that the two tribes will have peace and unity through him. They went back to Medina after having believed.

After going back to Yathrib, they sent to Allah’s messenger prayer and peace upon him asking for a man who may teach them about their faith, and to teach them the Quran. He sent them Mosaab Ibn Omer who stayed in the House of a man called Asad Ibn Zararah. Mosaab used to lead them in the Salah and teach them the Quran.

(Mosaab was a young man from a very wealthy family in Makah. When he embraced Islam, his parents became very harsh with him, took any money he had, and he became poor. He was the first Ambassador in Islam. He was martyred in the battle of Ohud. He did not have enough cloths to cover him to be buried)

In Medina, Mosaab and the other Muslims went on telling people about Islam, and about Allah’s messenger prayer and peace upon him, until there was not a family in the Arab tribes of Yathrib which did not hear, or had a Muslim member.

In the next Hajj season, ten men fro Khazrag and two from Awse went to meet with Allah’s messenger prayer and peace upon him. They met with him by the Aqaba and gave their covenant to him. The covenant was called the first Aqaba or the covenant of the women and it says that: “They worship no partners with Allah, do not steal, do not commit adultery, do not kill their children, do not commit a sin we do before us or between our legs, and do not disobey when commanded to do righteous things, if they do, they go to Paradise, and if they do any of the above, then Allah will decide , if He wills, he punishes and if He wills, he may pardon”. (Bukhari & Muslim)

The first Friday prayer in Medina was gathered by Asad Ibn Zararah. Abd El-Rahman Ibn Kaab Ibn Malik said: “I used to lead my father when he went blind. Whenever I took him for the Friday prayer and hears its Azan, he would pray for Asad Ibn Zararah and ask Allah to forgive him. I said to myself that it will be foolish not to ask him why? And he asked his father he pray and ask for forgiveness for Asad Ibn Zararah whenever he hears the Azan for the Friday prayer. He answered: “He was the first man to gather us for the Friday prayer in such and such place”. I asked: “how many were you then?” He said: “Forty men”. (Abu Dawood & Ibn Magah)

(Kaab Ibn Malik is one of the three men Allah the Highest pointed to in the Quran telling us that were forgiven staying behind the mission that went to Tabouk)

Saad Ibn Moaz and Ased Ibn Hadir were the chiefs of their clan each, and were still disbelievers. They decided between them that Ased Ibn Hadir goes to Mosaab Ibn Omir and Asad Ibn Zararah to tell them not to speak to people about Islam. He went to see them carrying his spear and he spoke to them harshly asking them to stop talking to people about Islam in Medina. Mosaab said to him: “Would you sit down and listen, if you like what you hear accept it, and if you do not like I will stop” He sate and Mosaab spoke to him about Islam and recited the Quran to him, and soon they found his face brightening up, and he said: “How good and beautiful these words are?” What does one do when he wants to join this religion?” They said to him: “We bath and purify ourselves and our cloths, then say the testimony (Shahada) then pray two Rakaa” which he did.

Ased went back to Saad Ibn Moaz and his companions, but Saad found his face bright and full of peace, not like someone who was quarreling, he said to his companions: “Ased is back with a different face than the one he went to them with”

Ased said to Saad that he did not find any thing wrong in what they were talking about, and then wanting to get Saad to go and speak to them, he told Saad that he heard that there were some men who wanted to kill Asad; who was a relative Saad. Saad went to see them carrying his spear, and what happened with his friend Ased happened with him, and Saad Embraced Islam.

When Saad went back to his people, and Ased was with them, he looked much happier than when he went. He spoke to them and said that he is not speaking to any of them unless they embrace Islam, and he became a great speaker for Islam.

Saad Ibn Moaz went back to Mosaab and Asad and stayed in Asad house for a while, to learn about Islam and to tell people about it. Islam then spread and entered every household in Medina, except for few who embraced Islam later after the siege of Medina.

The Life of Prophet Mohamed 13

Al-Israe and Mearage

Before going into the details of the Israe and Mirage, I would like to discuss two controversial points:

First; Did the Israe and M Mirage happen with body and soul or only by the soul?

I would say that has the Israe and Mirage been done with the soul only, the material things that happened, would not have happened, particularly the drinking of the water some people left. As far as denying that it could not have happened with the body as Allah’s messenger prayer and peace upon him was not missed, and the where he slept was warm all the time, despite traveling very long distances on Earth then going up in the Heavens. Weather these took days, hours or minutes, this would not matter to Allah the Highest and is not too much for him. The one who did the Israe and Mirage was Allah the Highest who said: “PRAISE BE TO HIM WHO TOOK HIS SLAVE ON ISRAE FROM THE SACRED MOSQUE TO AL-AQSA MOSQUE” (S: 17 A: 1)

It happened by Allah’s Power which is without a limit, not by his messenger’s power.

Second: Did Allah’s messenger prayer and peace upon him see Allah the Highest or not?

Allah’s messenger said that he saw light and Allah shields him self from others with light, and he did not describe any thing more. If Allah’s messenger prayer and peace upon him saw Allah the Highest and did not tell us, this would be a secret between him and his Lord, we should not discuss.

Om Hanai Hadith concerning Israe and Mirage:

Om Hanai real name was Hend and she was a cousin of Allah’s messenger prayer and peace upon him, daughter of his uncle Abu Taleb and a sister to Ali Ibn Abi Taleb. She said:

“Allah’s messenger prayer and peace upon went on Israe from my house. He slept that night in my house after praying Esha, then went to sleep. At Fajr, he rose and prayed the morning Salah and we prayed with him, then he said: “Om Hanai, I prayed the last Salah of Esha as you sae in this valley, then I went to Jerusalem and prayed them, then I prayed the Morning with you as you see”. Then he rose to go out, I held the end of his garment and said: “Allah’s prophet, do not tell this to people, for they will not believe you and will hurt you. He said: “By Allah, I will tell them” She told an Abyssinian slave of hers: “Follow Allah’s messenger and listen to what people say”.

When he went out and told people, they said to him that they never heard any thing like it, and said to him what is the evidence for that? He said: “The evidence is that I passed by the caravan of Bani so and so and one of their camels went astray and (he described the camel) then in another valley, he went by the caravan of Bani so and so who had water in container and the container was covered, he drank the water and recovered the container”

When they enquired from these caravans when they arrived to Makah, they found that what he told them was true.

On that night, Gabriel peace upon him wake him us and brought his an animal call “Al-Boraq” its size is between the mule and the donkey, and it had two wings, which Allah’s messenger prayer and peace upon him rode. It toke him very fast to Jerusalem, and seeing things on the way, until her arrived to Jerusalem where he met, Ibrahim peace upon him and Jesus peace upon him, with a group of the prophets gathered for him, and he lead them in Salah.

Then Allah’s messenger prayer and peace upon him was brought three containers, one containing wine, the second water and the third milk, he took the milk and drank it. Gabriel peace upon him said: “You have been rightly guided and so has your nation and you will be forbidden intoxicants”

After finishing with Jerusalem, the Mirage was brought to him, and did not see any thing better. It is what the dying person look up to when dying. My companion (Gabriel) took me ascending it, until we reached one of the heavens gates, guarded by an Angel called Ismail, in charge of twelve thousand angels, each of them in charge of twelve thousand angels.

Then Allah’s messenger prayer and peace upon him said: “the Angels received me in the lower heaven, and whenever one receives me he will be happy and smiling and pleased and says good things and says Dawa for me, until one of the angels met men who said like what they said and said Dawa for my like the others, but he was not smiling and did not look pleased, I said to Gabriel: ‘O Gabriel, who is this angel who spoke to me like the other Angels but did not smile to me and was not pleased as the others? He said: If he was to smile to any one before you or any one after you, he would have smiled to you, he is Malek, the keeper of the Fire’. Allah’s messenger prayer and peace upon him said: ‘I said to Gabriel who has such status with Allah the Highest: “Would you order him to show me the Fire” He said: Yes. Malek, show Mohamed the Fire. He to a lid of it, it rose over until I thought she will burn ever thing I see. I said to Gabriel: tell him to put it back where it was, and he told him, and it went down, and he covered it”

Then he said: “In the lower heaven, I saw a man and the soul of the human beings are shown to him. When he sees some, he speaks well of and says: “A good soul, came out of a good body”, and to others he would say: off and would frown, and say: “an evil soul which came out of an evil body” He then said: “Who is that Gabriel? He said: This is your father Adam, the souls of his offspring is shown to him, when a believer’s soul passes, he is pleased and says: A good soul out of a good body. And when a disbeliever’s soul passes, he dislikes it and says: An evil soul out of an evil spirit”

Then he said: “Then I saw men with lips like the lips of the camel, and in their hands there are pieces of fire, they put into their mouths, and it comes out of their rears. I asked: “Who are they Gabriel? He said: “They are those who unjustly devour the money of the orphans”.

And said: “Then I saw men who have good meat, and besides it bad, smelly meat. They eat out of the bad and smelly meat and leave the good meat, I said: “Who are they Gabriel? He said: “They are those who leave what Allah permitted them of the women, and go for what Allah the Highest has forbidden.

Then said: “Then I was women hanged by their breasts, I said: “Who are they Gabriel” They are the women who let children other than their husband, come to their husband’s home (through Adultery)

Then he took me up to the second heaven, and there I found the two cousins through their mothers, Jesus the son of Mary and Yehia the son of Zakaria.

Then I was taken to the third heaven, I saw a man as good looking as then the moon when it is full. I said: “Who is he Gabriel” He said: “This is Yusuf (Joseph) the son of Jacob”

Then I was taken to the fourth heaven, and there I saw a man, I said: “Who is this Gabriel? He said: This is Idris. Allah’s messenger prayer and peace upon him said: “AND WE RAISED HIM TO A HIGH STATE”

Then I was taken to the fifth Heaven, and there I found an aged man with while white hair and beard, I said: “Who is this Gabriel”, he said: “This is the one loved by his people, Haroon the son of Emran”.

Then I was taken to the sixth Heaven, and there I found a tall dark man with a curved nose, I asked: who is this Gabriel? He said: This is your brother, Moses the son of Emran.

Then I was taken to she seventh heaven, and their I found an aged man sitting on a chair by Al-Bayt El-Mamour, into which goes seventy thousand angel and do not return, up to the day of Resurrection, no one looks like your companion (himself) or I am more like any one more than him. I asked: Who is he Gabriel? He said: This is you father Ibrahim.

Then He took me into the Paradise, and there I saw a dark maiden, I asked her, and she was good looking, whom does she belong to? She said: “Zyd Ibn Haretha” And he told Zyd about this news.

Then Allah’s messenger prayer and peace went to audience with his Lord, where Gabriel could not enter with. In the presence of Allah the Highest, he was given the command about the Salah. It was given in direct communication with Allah the Highest, without any intermediaries. It was for fifty Salah every day and night i.e. every 24 hours. On his way back he passed by Moses peace upon him who advised his to go back to Allah and ask for this heavy duty to be lightened, which he did down to forty Salah. Mohamed prayer and peace upon him kept going back until Allah the Highest made it 5 Salahs, rewarded as for fifty Salahs’ When Moses Advised him to go back, Mohamed prayer and peace upon him said that he was very shy of doing this again. This is how the Salah was prescribed for us. It was made a duty upon us when Allah the Highest honoured his messenger prayer and peace upon him, by the journeys of Israe and Mirage and by giving him an audience the Allah the Highest directly, in a place, no one else could enter.

Gabriel went to Allah’s messenger prayer and peace upon him and led him in Prayer the five times per day in two consecutive days, to teach him the way of praying. In the First day, they prayed at the beginning of the time and next day at the end of the time for praying, and told him to pray between those times. This is how we learned about the way of Salah and the time of the Salah.

The Boycott:

The disbelievers of Qurish agreed on a plan to pressurize Allah’s messenger prayer and peace upon him and his family and clan who protect him, despite the fact the majority of the did not believe yet.  They agreed to send the descendants of Abu Taleb and Hashem from Makah, to any dry area outside Makah Called Sheb Abi Taleb.  They also agreed that they should not buy or sell any thing with them, and not to intermarry with them.  They wrote their agreement on a sheath they kept inside the Kabba.

Allah’s messenger prayer and peace upon him lived with his clan in Sheb Abi Taleb for three years, in tents and in very harsh conditions, with little food and water, they had to eat tree leaves, and anything they find even deal animals.  Even under these conditions, Allah’s messenger family and clan did not give up protecting him and did not think of surrendering him those who wanted to kill him.

Hesham Ibn Amro was a man of high position and good esteem in Makah, and he was close to Bano Hashem.  He used to take food to them secretly by night, carrying it on the back of a camel.

Hesham went one day to Zohir Ibn Omyah and they discussed what is happening to Bano Abd El-Motaleb and Bano Hashem in their exile in Sheb Abi Taleb.  They agreed to do their best to break up this boycott; however they felt that they need a third man to support them.  They two of them went to Al-Motam Ibn Adi and they spoke to him about their wish, and he agreed with them.  The three of them went to see Al-Buhtori Ibn Hesham, and told him what they wanted to do, he agreed, and they became four.  The four of them went to Zoma Ibn Al-Aswad, and sought his support, he agreed and they became five.

The five of them agree to meet by night to plan what they were going to do, and they met and agreed to break up the boycott, and that Zohir will be the first man to talk in public about it.

Zohir went to the sacred mosque and spoke out saying: “O people of Makah, do we eat and wear cloths, while descendants of Hashem (Bano Hashem) are perishing, no one is buying or selling with them, by Allah I will not rest until I destroy this unjust, boycotting agreement”.  Abu Jahl went to oppose Zohir, but Zohir’s four companions stood up to defend his and his cause.

Ibn Is,Haq narrated that Allah’s messenger pray and peace upon him said to Abu Taleb his uncle: “My uncle, my Lord made the termites each Qurish’s agreement sheath and only left Allah’s name and erased all the injustice, boycotting and falsehood”  Abu Taleb said: “Did your Lord tell you that?” He said: “Yes”.

Abu Taleb went out and said: “People of Qurish, my nephew tells me so and so, therefore stop boycotting us, and stop what you doing, and if he is lying, I will surrender my nephew to you”.  They said: “We agree” and they all agreed to that.  When they look at the sheath and found what Allah’s messenger said to be true, they became angrier, however, the sheath was torn and the agreement it had was broken.

During the year this agreement broke, Abu Taleb, Allah’s messenger’s uncle who brought him us and protected him, died.  This was a great personal loss and a big loss for all the Muslims.

During the same year Khadija bent Khowayled, Allah’s messenger’s wife died.  He lost the kind heart and the tender faithful wife and support for Allah’s messenger prayer and peace upon him.  This year because the year of grief for Allah’s messenger by losing his uncle and wife.

Al-Tofil Ibn Amro Al-Doci:

Al-Tofil was the chief of his tribe Doci and the noble man there.  He was also a thoughtful and wise man.  When he went to Makah, it’s people told him never to talk to or listen to Mohamed prayer and peace upon him, to the extend that he put cotton wool in his ears.  However, when he reached the Kabba Allah’s messenger prayer and peace upon him was praying there, and Al-Tofil unintentionally heard some of the Quran, and he liked what he heart.  He thought to himself; why would he obey others without thinking about the matter himself.

Al-Tofil decided to go to Allah’s messenger prayer and peace upon him and ask him about Islam.  Allah’s messenger prayer and peace upon him talked to him about Islam, and recited the Quran to him, and Tofil decided to embrace Islam.  Al-Tofil said to Allah’s messenger prayer and peace upon him that he is respected and obeyed by his people, and asked him if he can have a sign to help him to persuade his people, and Allah’s messenger prayer and peace upon him asked Allah to give him a sign.

Al-Tofil went back home to Doci, and when he got near, he found that he has light right in front of his face.     He asked Allah to move it elsewhere and it was moved to his whip, and every one in the tribe was this light in his whip as he came nearer.

Al-Tofil told his father about Islam and he embraced Islam, and also told his wife who embraced Islam too.  They he started to talk to one household after another and the people of Doci slowly but steadily became Muslim.  Mean while, the Muslims migrated to Medina, and the battle of Badr took place, and after the taking of Khyber, he migrated to Medina along with 70-80 household from Doci.  Allah’s messenger prayer and peace upon him was overjoyed to see them, and he gave them a share of the bounty of the battle.

Al-Tofil lived in Medina with Allah’s messenger prayer and peace upon him until the death of Allah’s messenger.  When some tribes refused to pay Zakah or left Islam, Abu Bakr sent armies to fight them, and Al-Tofil went with these armies, and he went to the battle of Yamamah.  Before the battle he saw a vision that he shaved his head, and a bird flew out of his mouth, then he me a women and his body entered her body through her genitalia, and saw his son eagerly going after him, but he was kept away from him.  When he told the people about his vision, they said: Good Allah willing.  He said: Bu I understand it, as for the shaving of the head it means that his head will be put down, and the bird flying out of my mouth is my soul, and the woman is the earth will be split open for me to be buried, as for my son eagerly going after him is that his son will be hurt in the battle.

Al-Tofil was martyred during the battle of Yamamah, and his son had a bad wound but was not killed.  He died years later during the battle of Yarmok, during the rule of Omar Ibn El-Khatab.  May Allah be pleased with and has mercy upon Al-Tofil and his son.

The Mood Splitting Asunder:

Bukhari, Muslims and Ahmed narrated that the disbelievers asked Allah’s messenger prayer and peace upon him to show them sign of his prophecy on a night when the moon was complete, and the moon spit asunder into two halves.  They said: This is magic.  Allah the Highest send down these Ayahs of Sorat Al-Qamar (the moon): “THE HOUR DRAW NEAR AND THE MOON SPLIT ASUNDER * AND WHEN THEY A SIGN THEY TURN AWAY AND SAY: ONGOING MAGIC * THEY DENIED AND FOLLOWED THEIR DESIRES BUT EVERY THING WILL SETTLE”. (S: 54 A: 1-3)

The disbelievers did believe after seeing this great miracle, which shows that they used to ask Allah’s messenger for miracles, hoping to find evidence to deny his prophecy not as a proof of his prophecy.

Wrestling with Rekana:

Ibn Is, Haq narrated that Rekana Ibn Abd Yazed Ibn Hashem was the strongest man in Qurish and Makah, and he would defeat any one he wrestles.  He met Allah’s messenger prayer and peace upon him, and they were on their own outside Makah. Allah’s messenger prayer and peace upon him said: “Rekana, would you not protect yourself from Allah’s displeasure and follow me?”  Rekana said: “If I know that what you say is true, I would have followed you”.  Allah’s messenger prayer and peace upon him said: How if I overcome you wrestling”.  Rekana got up to fight him by Allah’s messenger prayer and peace upon him overcame him easily.  Rekana asked to try again and he was defeated again and a third time.  Rekana said: “This is really amazing Mohamed, how could you defeat me?”

He said to him: “And I can show you more, if you fear Allah and follow me”.  Rekana said: “what is that?”  He said: “I will call this tree and it will come to me”  Allah’s messenger prayer and peace upon him called the tree and it came to him, then said to her to return and it returned back to it’s place.

Rekana went to his people, and said: “O Bani Abd Manaf, you can use your man (Mohamed) to spell magic on all people on earth, for I have never seen a better magician, and he told them what happened wit Mohamed prayer and peace upon him.

The Christians visit:

A twenty men delegation of the Christians of Arabia went to see Allah’s messenger prayer and peace upon him in Makah.  This was a different delegation from the one which went from Najran to meet him in Medina.

They sat down, listened to him and to the Quran, and were tearful when they heard the Quran.  Abu Jahl met them and was nasty and unpleasant to them. Allah the Highest sent down Quran about them saying: “THOSE WE HAVE GIVEN THE BOOK BEFORE YOU, THEY BELIEVE IN IT * AND WHEN IT IS RECITED TO THEM THEY SAY: WE BELIEVE IN IT, IT IS THE TRUTH FROM OUR LORD, AND WE HAVE BEEN MUSLIMS BEFOREHAND * THEY ARE TO BE GIVEN THEIR REWARD TWICE BECAUSE OF THEIR PATIENCE AND PERSEVERANCE, AND WARD OFF THE BAD DEED WITH A GOOD DEED, AND THEY SPEND OUT OF WHAT THEY HAVE BEEN PROVIDED * WHEN THEY HEAR THE BAD TALK, THEY TURN AWAY FROM IT, AND THEY SAY WE HAVE OUR DEEDS, AND YOU HAVE YOUR DEED, PEACE UPON YOU, WE DO NOT SEEK  THE IGNORANT”  (S:28 A:52-55)

The Weak and Poor Muslims sitting with Allah’s messenger prayer and peace upon him:

When Allah’s messenger prayer and peace upon him sat in the sacred mosque, the weak and poor of the Muslims; like Khabab Ibn Al-Aret and Amar Ibn Yasser, used to sit with him.  The wealthy and noble of the Makans used to laugh at them and say that had what was sent to Mohamed been right, the wealthy and strong would have followed Mohamed and not the weak and poor.  Allah the Highest sent down Quran about this saying: “AND DO NOT TURN AWAY THOSE WHO CALL UPON THEIR LORD BY DAY AND NIGHT SEEKING HIM, YOU DO NOT JUDGE THEM AND THEY DO NOT JUDGE YOU, IF YOU TURN THEM AWAY YOU WILL BE OF THE UNJUST * SUCH WE TEMPTED SOME OF YOU BY THE OTHER FOR THEM TO SAY: DID ALLAH HAS HIS BOUNTY UPON THOSE FROM AMONGST US?  DOES ALLAH NOT KNOW BETTER WHO ARE THE THANKFUL”.  (S: 6 A: 52-53)

Allah’s messenger prayer and peace upon him sits with the Christian young man:

A young Christian man who was not an Arab used to sit with Allah’s messenger prayer and peace upon him by the Marwa.  Some of the disbelievers said that he taught Mohamed prayer and peace upon him the Quran.  Allah the Highest sent down Quran answering them: “AND WE KNOW THAT THEY SAY THAT A HUMAN TEACHES HIM (THE QURAN), THE TONGUE OF THE ONE THEY REFER TO IS NOT ARAB, AND THIS IS A CLEAR ARABIC TONGUE”  (S:16 A:103)

Sorat Al-Kowther:

A man of the disbelievers called Al-Ase Ibn Wael used to say whenever Allah’s messenger prayer and peace upon him: Leave him for he is a man without offspring (had no living boy), once he dies, he will not be remembered, and you will have no trouble with him.  Allah the Highest sent down: “WE HAVE GIVEN YOU THE KOWTHER * SO PRAY FOR YOUR LORD AND SACRIFICE (OR SLAUGHTER) * HE WHO HATES YOU IS THE ONE WITHOUT OFFSPRING”.

Allah’s messenger prayer and peace upon him was asked: “Allah’s messenger, what is the Kowther?”  He said: “It is a river in Paradise, as long as between Ayala and Sanaa.  It has cups and many as the stars in the heavens, and birds with necks like the camel’s neck go to it”.  In another narration: “Those who drink from it will never get thirsty”.

The Disbelievers wanted to see the angels:

Some of the disbelievers said to Allah’s messenger prayer and peace upon him that they will believe him if they see him accompanied by an angel.  To be seen by people and talks to them, then this will be a proof of his prophecy.  Allah the Highest sent the following Ayahs down.  “AND THEY SAID: SHOULD AN ANGEL BE SENT DOWN TO HIM, AND IF WE SEND AN ANGEL DOWN, ALL WILL BE FINISHED, AND THEY WILL NOT BE GIVEN ANY REPRIEVE * AND IF WE MADE HIM AN ANGEL, WE WOULD MAKE HIM A MAN, AND THEY WILL STILL BE CONFUSED” (S: 6 A: 8-9)

The Life of Prophet Mohamed ppuh 11

Omar Ibn El-Khatab embraces Islam:

Omar went out one day carrying his sword and looking for Allah’s messenger prayer and peace upon him to do him harm. He learned that he was with a group of his companions in a house by the Safa, and of the people there was Hamza and Ali Ibn Abi Taleb.

Omar was a very harsh man with the Muslims, persecuting and hurting them, although on some occasions he did show softness and compassion to them. Of these occasions was when a Muslim woman by the name of Om Abd Allah was preparing for migration to Abyssinia (the second wave) when Omar Ibn El-Khatab passed her by, and said: You are going off them Om Abd Allah? She said: Yes. We will go out into Allah’s land until Allah makes a way out for us, for you have hurt and oppressed us. Omar said: May Allah be with you, and he said it softly.

This was the first time he showed softness to the Muslims.

On his way to where Allah’s messenger prayer and peace upon him was, he met a man of his tribe Bani Adi, called Naem Ibn Abd Allah, who was a Muslim but kept his Islam secret fearing his people. He asked Omar where he was going, and Omar told him that he was going to kill Mohamed. Naem reminded Omar that Mohamed’s family would kill him if he does, and that he ought to see to his family first, informing him that Omar’s sister Fatima and her husband Saed Ibn Zyd who was also his cousin were Muslim.

Omar then changed direction and headed for his sister’s house. At the time they had Khabab Ibn Al-Aret teaching them the Quran, and they had a sheath with Sorah Taha or part of it written. When they saw Omar coming, they hide Khabab in one of the rooms, and Fatema hide the sheath under her thigh. However, Omar already heard them reading the Quran, and he asked about it, but they denied. He told them that he heard that they embraced Islam, and went for Fatima’s husband hitting him. When Fatima tried to save her husband from Omar’s hands, Omar Hit her and cut her head open.

When Omar saw the blood on his sister’s head and face, he regretted what he did and calmed down. He asked to have a look at the Quran Sheath, but his sister told him that as a disbeliever he is impure and he has to bath before touching the Quran. Omar bathed and read from the beginning of Sorat Taha, which moved him and he said: “How good these words are and how noble”. Khebab heard him from his hiding and came out to say to Omar that he heard the day before Allah’s messenger prayer and peace upon him say: “Allah, support Islam with one of the two, Abi Al-Hakam Ibn Hesham or Omar Ibn El-Khatab”. Omar asked them to take him to Allah’s messenger prayer and peace upon him, and they took him to the house by Safa.

When Allah’s messenger’s companions saw Omar going to them carrying his sword, Hamza said: Let him come in, if he wants something good, we will do it for him and but if he tries an thing bad, we will kill him with his own sword. Allah’s messenger prayer and peace upon him let Omar in, and then he took hold of his cloth and pulled him hard and said: “What is the matter with you Omar, will you not stop until something terrible happens to you?”

Omar said: “Allah’s messenger, I came to believe in Allah and His messenger and what came from Allah”. Allah’s messenger prayer and peace upon him glorified God saying Allah Akbar, from which every one in the house knew that Omar embraced Islam.

Omar asked as to the person who spreads the news fastest in Qurish? He was told he was Jameel Ibn Moamar. Omar went to him and told him about his Islam, and Immediately Jameel got up and went around shouting the news, and Omar walked behind him. It was not long before Omar was attacked, and he went on fighting his attackers all day.

Omar embracing Islam was a step forwards for the Muslims, particularly after Hamza embraced Islam, Allah’s messenger’s uncle; for Hamza and Omar were two strong men, feared by their people, and they were a great support for the Muslims.

Allah’s messenger ppuh write to Nagashi:

Allah’s messenger prayer and peace upon him sent a message to the Nagashi of Abyssinia concerning the Muslims in his land. The message was carried by Amro Ibn Omiya and it said: “In the name of Allah the Most Merciful, the Compassionate. From Mohamed Allah’s slave and messenger to the Nagashi Al-As-ham, the king of Abyssinia. Peace upon you. I thank and praise Allah, the King, the Holly, the Faithful, the Overseeing, and I give testimony that Jesus is Allah’s spirit and word sent to Mariam the virgin, the pure, the kind and the chaste, which caused her to conceive Jesus, who was created from His spirit, and blow into him as He created Adam with his hands and blow into him. I ask you to come to Allah, one with no partners, and to obey him always, and to follow me and believe in me and what came to me, for I am Allah’s messenger. I sent my cousin Jafar with a number of the Muslims to you. When they come, let them live there and do not be arrogant and overpowering. I call you and your soldiers to Allah, the most Exalted, the Majestic. I delivered (the message) and advised you, so accept my advice, and peace is upon those who follow the right guidance”.

Nagashi’s Reply:

The Nagashi wrote to Allah’s messenger prayer and peace upon him saying: “In the name of Allah the Most Merciful the Compassionate. To Mohamed Allah’s messenger from the Nagashi Al-AsHab Ibn El-Abgar; Peace upon you Allah’s prophet and Allah’s Mercy and Blessings. There is no god other than Allah who guided me to Islam. I received your letter Allah’s messenger and what you mentioned about Jesus, by the Lord of the heavens and earth Jesus is no more than what you said. We recognized what you sent to us and let your cousin and his companions settle here. I testify that you are Allah’s messenger, with the truth and to be believed. I give you allegiance and give your cousin whom I embraced Islam before him, and to Allah the lord of all the worlds. Allah’s messenger, I sent you Arbaha Ibn Al-AsHam, for I only have power over myself. If you wish me to come to you Allah’s messenger, I will, for I testify that what you say is the truth”.

Sorat Al-Masad:

One day, Allah’s messenger prayer and peace upon him went out until he reached the top of the Safa and shouted out for people. When people gathered around him, he said: What do you think if I told you about horsemen coming from around this mountain, would you believe me? They said: Yes, you did not lie to us before. He said: Then I am warning you before severe punishment. His uncle Abu Lahab said: You may perish, is this is what you gathered us for? Allah the Highest then sent down Sorat Al-Masad saying: “PERISH WILL THE HANDS OF ABI LAHAB AND PERISH WILL HE * HIS MONEY AND WHAT HE EARNED WILL NOT SAVE HIM * HE WILL BURN IN A FIRE WITH FLAMES * AND HIS WIFE WILL CARRY THE FIRE-WOOD * AROUND HER NECK IS A ROBE OF LOOFA”.

Om Jameel, Abu Lahab’s wife thought that this was a sort of offensive poetry insulting her when she heard these Ayahs.

Sorat Al-Kafroon:

The disbelievers in Makah offered Allah’s messenger prayer and peace upon him that they worship Allah for a month or a year then he worships the idles for similar period etc. Allah the Highest sent down this Sorah telling the believers and disbelievers that the believers do not worship idles for a year, month or a minute. This was Sorat Al-Kafroon saying: SAY: YOU DISBELIEVERS * I DO NOT WORSHIP WHAT YOU WORSHIP * AND YOU DO NOT WORSHIP WHAT I WORSHIP * AND I AM NOT WORSHIPPING WHAT YOU WORSHIP * AND YOU ARE NOT WORSHIPPING WHAT I WORSHIP * YOU HAVE YOUR RELIGION AND I HAVE MINE”.

The Muslims in Abyssinia received false news about the Makans becoming all Muslims. That news were because of the fact that one day Allah’s messenger prayer and peace upon him sate by the Kabba and started to recite the Quran, Sorat Al-Najm loudly, and people Muslims and disbelievers sate listening to him. When he reached the end of the Sorah, which had a prostration, he prostrated, and so did every one else believers and disbelievers, except for an old disbeliever.

It is possible that someone carried this news prematurely to the Muslims in Abyssinia thinking that all of Makah embraced Islam. This lead to some of the Muslims going back to Makah to find the situation to be still the same and the majority of the Makans are worshipping idles still.

Othman Ibn Mazoon; was one of the men to have returned to Makah. He feared to enter Makah without any protection. He sought the protection of Al-Waleed Ibn El-Mogera who gave him his protection. Othman lived for few days under the protection of the Waleed, however he felt bad that the Muslims are suffering and tortured, which he enjoys safety being in the protection of a disbeliever. He considered this weakness in his faith, therefore he publically gave up this protection.

Al-Waleed Ibn Al-Mogera: was the chief man in Makah. He said how would the Quran be sent down to an ordinary man and not the chief or Makah or Taef, meaning that if Allah the Highest was to communicate with someone there, Allah should have communicated with a chief. Allah the Highest sent down sent down the following Quran: “AND THEY SAID: IF THIS QURAN WAS SENT DOWN ON ONE OF THE GREAT MEN OF THE TWO VILLAGE * DO THEY SHARE YOUR LORD’S MERCY OUT, WE GAVE EACH HIS SHARE IN THE LOWER LIFE, AND RAISED SOME OF THEM DEGREES ABOVE THE OTHERS, AND SOME OF THEM TAKE THE OTHERS IN JEST, BUT THE MERCY OF YOUR LORD IS BETTER THAN ALL THEY MAY GATHER”. (S:43 A:31-32)

Oqbah Ibn Abi Maet sat with Allah’s messenger prayer and peace upon him listening to the Quran. A man of the disbelievers new and said to Oqbah, that he will never speak to him unless he spites in Allah’s messenger’s face. Oqbah went and spate in Allah’s messenger’s face. Allah the Highest sent Quran down about this in Sorat Forqan: “THE DAY WHEN THE UNJUST WILL BITE HIS HAND AND SAY: I WISH I WENT DOWN THE SAME PATH AS THE MESSENGER * I WISH I NEVER TOOK SO AND SO FOR INTIMATE FRIEND * HE MISGUIDED AWAY FROM THE ZEKR (QURAN) WHEN IT CAME TO ME, BUT THE DEVIL ALWAYS LETS MAN DOWN”. (S:25 A:27-29)

Obi Ibn Khalaf went one day to Allah’s messenger prayer and peace upon him with very old brittle bone and said: Mohamed, you claim that Allah will resurrect this after it became old and brittle? Then he crushed the bone with his hand and blow it up at the face of Allah’s messenger prayer and peace upon him. Allah the Highest sent down Quran of Sorat Yaseen answering him: “HE GAVE US AN EXAMPLE, WHILE FORGETTING HIS OWN CREATION SAYING: WHO WILL RESURRECT THE BONE AFTER IT BECAME OLD AND BRITTLE * SAY: HE WHO CREATED IT IN THE FIRST PLACE WILL RESURRECT IT, FOR HE HAS FULL KNOWLEDGE OF ALL CREATION * WHO MADE FIRE FOR YOU FROM THE GREEN TREES YOU USE FOR FUEL * IS HE WHO CREATED THE HEAVENS AND EARTH NOT ABLE TO CREATE OTHERS LIKE THEM? YES INDEED, FOR HE IS THE ALL KNOWING CREATOR * BUT WHENEVER HE WILLS SOMETHING TO BE HE SAYS: BE. AND IT WILL BE * THEREFORE GLORY IS TO HE WHO HAS IN HIS HAND ALL KINGDOMS, AND TO HIM YOU WILL RETURN”. (S:36 A:78-83)

Allah’s messenger prayer and peace upon him was talking with Al-Waleed Ibn El-Mogerah telling his about Islam, hoping that he will embrace Islam, when Ibn Om Maktoom went to Allah’s messenger prayer and peace upon him asking him to teach him some Quran. Ibn Om Maktoom was a blind man. Allah’s messenger prayer and peace upon him frowned and looked away no more, which the blind man did not see, but Allah the Highest did, and He sent to His messenger prayer and peace upon him Quran to tell him that he should not have done, and that the blind man was more worthy of his time: “HE FROWNED AND TURNED AWAY * WHEN THE BLIND MAN WENT TO HIM * AND HOW DO YOU KNOW HE MIGHT WISH TO PURIFY HIMSELF * OR REMEMBER SOMETHING AND IT WILL BENEFIT HIM * ……………” (S:80)

This gentle reminder from Allah the Highest to His messenger is also in the best form. It is written in the best and most honoured book and carried by the chief angel. Reciting its words is worshipping which Allah the Highest rewards us for each and every letter. This shows us the High status which Allah the Highest held for His messenger prayer and peace upon him.

These were some of the situations which took place in Makah before the Migration of the Muslims to Medina, and which Allah the Highest sent Quran about.

Life of Prophet Mohamed 10

When the persecution of the Muslims in Makah became too much, Allah’s messenger prayer and peace upon him said to his companions: “You may go to the land of Habasha (Abyssinia) for there is a king who is not unjust to any one, may Allah makes there your relief from what you are going through”

A number of Allah’s messenger companions who were able to migrate, did migrate escaping with their Faith, of them:

- Othman Ibn Afan and his wife Roqayah, the daughter of Allah’s messenger prayer and peace upon him.

- Abu Hozifa Ibn Otba Ibn Rabae and his wife Sahla bent Sohil Ibn Amro, who gave birth to a boy they called him Mohamed while in Abyssinia.

- Al-Zobir Ibn El-Awam

- Abd El-Rahman Ibn Awf.

- Abu Salama and his wife Om Salama.

- Othman Ibn Mazoon.

- Amer Ibn Rabae and his wife Lila.

- Abi Sabra Ibn Abi Dirham.

- Sohil Ibn Bidaa.

This was the first wave of migrants, who were followed by:

- Jafar Ibn Abi Taleb and his wife Asmaa Bent Omis

- Amro Ibn Saeed Ibn El-Ase and his wife Fatema.

- Khalid Ibn Saed Ibn El-Ase and his wife Amena.

- And others. The total number was 82 men with their wives and children.

The Muslims lived in Habasha (Abyssinia) securely under the protection of the king there titled Nagashi. They practiced their religion safely, not being hurt or insulted by any one.

The people of Qurish decided to send two of their most cunning men, Amro Ibn El-Ase and Abd Allah Ibn Abi Rabae to ask the Nagashi to send them back to Makah. Abd Allah and Amro went to the Nagashi and took with them presents to him and his bishops, and plenty of leather which the Nagashi likes very much, and they took presents to the bishops first.

They spoke to the Nagashi about the Muslims and described them as fools, who migrated to his land and yet did not embrace his religion, Christianity. They asked the Nagashi to send them back to Makah with them, and the bishops supported this idea.

The Nagashi was very angry, and he refused to surrender to them the people who sought refuge with him and in his land, without listening to them first, so that he may pass a fair judgement.

When Allah’s messenger’s companions there heard of that they met and discussed the situation. They decided to answer the questions from the Quran and Sunah only, and they choose Jafar Ibn Abi Taleb to be their speaking person.

The Nagashi asked them in the presence of his bishops: “What is this religion which caused you to leave your people’s religion for and in the mean time you did not embrace my religion or any other known religion?” Jafar said: “O king, we were living in ignorance, worship idles, eat dead animals and do all sins, break up with family relations, and be bad to our neighbours, the strong unfair to the weak, until Allah sent us a messenger from us, we know his origin and decent and also his character, honesty and truthfulness. He called us to worship Allah only and stop worshipping idles, and commanded us to be truthful, fulfilling our trust, being good to our blood relations and neighbours, and to stop all sins and killing and giving false testimony, and wrongly taking the orphan’s money, and speaking ill of women, and commanded us to worship Allah with not partners besides him, and to pray, give charity and to fast (and mentioned the Islamic principles) we believed in him, and we followed what he had for us from Allah, so we worshiped Allah Alone with no partners, and we forbad to ourselves what we were forbidden and allowed ourselves what we were allowed. Then our people attacked us, tortured and persecuted us to force us to return to the worship of idles instead of Allah the Highest, and to permit ourselves the evil things. When we were overpowered and made life very hard for us, we left our homes to you’re your country, and we choose you above others, and we hoped for your protection and not to suffer injustice in your land O King”. The Nagashi said: “Do you have anything of what he brought you from Allah?” Jafar said: “Yes”, and he recited to from the beginning of Sorah Mariam. By Allah, the Nagashi wept until his beard became wet, and so did the bishops. Then the Nagashi said: “Indeed, this and what Jesus brought come out of the same light. You may go, by Allah I will never give you to them or hurt you”

Then Amro had another plot, he said to the Nagashi that they say that Jesus the son of Mary was a slave”. The Nagashi called them again and asked them what they say about Jesus the son of Mary? Jafar said: “We say about him what our prophet prayer and peace upon him and that he is Allah’s slave and messenger and his spirit and word he sent to Mariam the virgin the chaste”.

The Nagashi picked up a little stick from the earth and said: “Jesus is no more that what may say about this stick (meaning is no more than what he said”. Then he told the Muslims that they may live safely in his land, and should any one insult them, he will make them suffer, he said it three times.

The Nagashi gave Amro and Abd Allah their presents back and told his bishops to do the same. He said: “Give them their presents back, I do not need it. Allah did not accept bribery in my case when he gave me my kingdom back so that will accept bribe as far as he is concerned and he did not do what people say about me, so that I do what people say about him”

How the Nagashi became king:

Going back in time a little, the Nagashi’s father was a Nagashi (Meaning king) of Abyssinia, and he had one boy while his brother had 12 boys, they decided to kill the king, following which they feared the revenge of his son when he gets older, yet his uncle refused to kill his nephew and he sold his as a slave.

The slave merchant took him in a ship, but soon there was a storm with thunder and lightening, and his uncle was struck by lightening which killed him. Out of his 12 children, they could not find one who was good enough to be king; therefore, they looked for the previous Nagashi’s son to make king. They looked out for him and eventually found him with the slaves’ merchant, and they took him from the merchant without paying his price.

Time went by and the slave’s merchant found him and went to claim his price of 600 silver coins. The Nagashi gave his courtiers the choice or either paying the merchant 600 silver coins or he will have to go with him, so they paid the money and the Nagashi was eventually free.

While the Muslims were still living in Abyssinia, a man challenged the Nagashi’s right to the throne. The Muslims were very worried in case this man became Nagashi (king) and he might not treat them well. The Nagashi marched with his army to meet the army of his challenger on the other side of the Nile. Al-Zobir swam across the Nile to the other side to follow the battle and to let the Muslims know its outcome. Victory was to the side of Nagashi, and Al-Zobir swam across to give the Muslims the good news. The Muslims live in Abyssinia in safety until they returned to join the rest of the Muslims and this was after their migration to Medina.

The Nagashi becoming Muslim:

The Nagashi of Abyssinia embraced Islam and believed in Mohamed prayer and peace upon him being a prophet and messenger of Allah. People around him felt it, and they met and decided to go against him because of him leaving their faith, and also for believing that Jesus the son of Mary is Allah’s slave and messenger. The Nagashi knew about this and that they plan to meet with him.

The Nagashi sent to the Muslims to let them know what is happening, and he prepared ships to take them away, as he felt that those going against him might hurt the Muslims if they win the day. He wrote on a patch “There is no God other than Allah and Mohamed is his slave and messenger, and Jesus the son of Mary is his slave and messenger and spirit from Him, he sent to Mary” and he put this patch inside his cloth. When he met those going against him, and they said that Jesus is the son of God, he put is hand on the patch in his clothe, and said that Jesus in no more than that (meaning what is in the patch).

The Nagashi died on the ninth year after migration to Medina, and Allah’s messenger prayer and peace upon him know about it at the time it happened. He told the Muslims about the death of the Nagashi and he led the Salah Al-Janaza on him.

It is also reported that one of the Nagashi’s sons was taken and sold as a slave and his name was Abi Nizr, and a slave merchant in Makah had him. When Ali Ibn Abi Taleb saw him and knew who he was, he bought him and let him go free because of what his father the Nagashi did for the Muslims. After the Nagashi’s death, people had a dispute concerning who should follow him on the throne. When they know of the presence of his son with the Muslims and he was in Medina then, they sent to him to come to be made a king. He refused, and said: “I was not to seek the throne after having Allah’s bounty of Islam”.
